29th FAVA Council Meeting

The FAVA council meeting met on Sunday 26 October 2008, commencing at 10.00 a.m. at Kampangpetch room, Sofitel Centara Grand Hotel, Bangkok Thailand The FAVA Council met on Sunday 26th October 2008, commencing at 10.00 a.m., at the Sofitel Centara Grand Hotel, Bangkok, Thailand. The meeting was adjourned at 12.24pm and then reconvened at 3.30pm on Wednesday 29 October 2008 at FAVA congress venue.
Present were the representatives from associations’ members , Dr Yong-Ho Park and Dr Yean-Chul Woo (KVMA); Dr Pratuang Sudsakorn, Dr Vanda Sujarit and Dr Achariya Sailasuta (Thai VMA); and FAVA President Dr Jim Edwards (NZVA). The reconvened meeting was also attended by Dr Yoshihisa Yamane (JVMA), Dr Kevin Doyle (AVA), Dr Emmanuel Jamis (PVMA), Dr Shagdarsuren Erdenekhuu (Mongolian VMA), Dr Abdul Rahman (India), Dr Soe Lwin and Dr Ohn Kyaw (Myanmar).

THE FEDERATION OF ASIAN VETERINARY ASSOCIATIONS (FAVA) DECIDES
To support in principle, the development of a Universal Declaration of Animal Welfare which calls on countries of the region to acknowledge the importance of animal welfare and, at the same time, recognises the OIE as the established international animal welfare standard setting body, to encourage the efforts of Governments seeking to support this goal, and to encourage the efforts of globally recognised animal welfare organisations seeking to achieve this goal.
